Concrete foundation preservation can be achieved by crack repairs, true concrete repairs not injections. Waterproof coatings on positive and negative sides of basement walls.

Stone foundation preservation options are stone masonry repairs , mortar preservation and foundation wall coating  preservation. Traditional lime washing does not include removing of all existing lime and wall coatings but preserving structure by restoring it.

Mortar can be preserved by rehydrating walls and restoring with matching materials. The use of actual lime products is essential in preservation of lime mortar. Modern mortars sit on top of the lime mortar joints and trap moisture in the masonry causing damage to masonry and foundation.

Not all mortar can be saved. Lime mortar thats been subject to high volumes of water and experience clay or silts damage will need to be removed and sections restored. We use all aspects of masonry cement. Most commonly we use sand, lime, fiber additives and one shovel of Portland cement.  This mix is same one used by our Grandfather. Except we replace the horse hair with fibers. This mix is still breathable and creates waterproof barrier.
